Bahraich: Protesting against acquisition
of farmers` land at "throw away" prices by Uttar Pradesh
Housing Board, Congress MP Kamal Kishore Commando on Sunday staged
a sit-in with farmers and created a jam on the Bahraich-Bhinga
road.
The MP staged sit-in at Kalpri Para village to protest
acquisition of land of 60 farmers, who were served notice, and
created jam for over four years.
Later, senior district administration officers reached
the spot and assured the MP that farmers` land would be not
taken without their consent.
The farmers alleged that they were offered compensation
at throw away prices.
"While farmers were awarded compensation at the
rate of Rs 22 lakh to Rs 55 lakh per hectare, market rate
was over Rs 72 lakh per hectare," farmers said.
