New Delhi: Congress on Wednesday appeared
unimpressed by U P Chief Minister Mayawati cracking the whip
on tainted ministers ahead of UP Assembly polls, dubbing her
regime as "basically corrupt".
"People in U P are fed up with her corruption. Her
government is basically a corrupt government", party spokesman
Rashid Alvi told reporters.
His comments came close on the heels of Mayawati
sacking her secondary education minister Rangnath Misra on a
recommendation by Lokayukt, which probed disproportionate
assets charges against him, and labour minister Badshah Singh,
also under scanner of the anti-graft ombudsmen.
The Opposition in the state has, however, mounted attack
on the Chief Minister, who has removed four ministers on the
basis of Lokayukt reports-- three of them since September,
saying it was "not enough" and Mayawati should herself resign
as she faced "similar charges".
