Mathura: Congress is unnecessarily blowing the Lalit Modi controversy out of proportion, BJP leader Arun Singh has said, adding that false allegations are being levelled against the women leaders of his party.

No BJP leader, from the party or government is defending Lalit Modi. The government will take action as per the law, Singh said on his first visit here yesterday after being appointed as the party's national secretary.

He said the Central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the "first government committed to the poor people".

The government has initiated several schemes keeping poor people in mind but Congress is creating "hurdles" in the good work, Singh added.

The NDA government at the Centre is in the dock after senior ministers were allegedly found having links with the tainted former IPL boss Lalit Modi, who is facing ED probe into alleged money laundering in connection with organising of IPL tournament.

The four women ministers being targeted by the Congress are Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, HRD Minister Smriti Irani and Maharshtra Minister Pankaja Munde.

While Raje and Swaraj are accused in Lalitgate row; Irani is alleged to possess fake degrees and Munde is facing the music for government fund discrepancies.
