Lucknow: A policeman, who was absconding after allegedly raping a nursing student, was arrested here on Thursday, an official said.
Arun Kumar Yadav, 25, a constable of the Bazar Khala police station, was nabbed Thursday from near the Kaiserbagh bus station.
On the pretext of dropping the 25-year-old nursing student, who had arrived here a few days ago from her native Pratapgarh district, to a bus station, Yadav took her to his friend`s house and raped her Tuesday night.
"He (Yadav) was nabbed while he was waiting to catch a bus in order to move out of the city limits," police inspector Sarang Dhar Dwivedi told reporters here.
"Efforts are on to nab Yadav`s friend, who assisted him in committing the crime," he added.
A criminal case against Yadav was registered Wednesday when the nursing student approached the police. Soon after the case was lodged against Yadav, the authorities decided to suspend him after carrying out preliminary investigations in the case.
