Ghaziabad: A local court on Thursday rejected
the bail petition of Utsav Sharma, who had inflicted wounds on
Aarushi`s father Rajesh Talwar.
Rejecting Sharma`s bail application, District and
Sessions Judge Shyam Lal said he came from Varanasi to
Ghaziabad with a purpose to assault Talwar and even in the
past he had indulged in a similar act. A year ago, Sharma had
attacked former DGP SPS Rathore, convicted in Ruchika Girhotra
molestation case, outside a Panchkula court in Haryana.
Sharma, 30, had attacked Talwar with a cleaver on
January 25 on the court premises. He has been booked under IPC
section 307 for attempt to murder.
Lawyer of the accused S P Chaoudhry argued for
Sharma`s release, saying he is mentally disturbed and needs
better medical facility, which is not possible in the jail.
The counsel claimed that the attack on Talwar was not
a deliberate act but an accident and assured the court his
client will not leave the country.
On February 8, Sharma`s judicial custody was extended
for 14 days.
