Muzaffarnagar: A local court Thursday rejected the plea of murder accused Bharatiya Kisan Union president Naresh Tikait to absolve him of all the charges against him in connection with the killing of Congress leader Chaudhary Jagbir Singh.
Additional District and Sessions Court judge R P Singh rejected Tikait`s plea to relieve him, ordering the proceedings to continue in the case.
The BKU president was accused in connection with the murder case of Congress leader and Rashtriya Kisan Morcha president Chaudhary Jagbir Singh, who was shot dead in Ahlawatpur village of the district in 2003.
Tikait pleaded the court to relieve him as the proceedings against the two other accused Praveen and Rajiv in the case has been dropped after their death. His lawyer argued that the case which involves two other accused should not be tried alone in court.
However, Singh rejected the plea, ordering the proceedings to continue in the case.
After Chaudhary Jagbir Singh was shot dead, his son Yograh Singh had lodged an FIR against Praveen, Rajiv and Tikait. During the pendency of the case, two accused Rajiv and Praveen died and the proceedings against them was dropped. The trial against Tikait continues.
