Neeraj Singh, who had 22 cases registered against him and carried a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh, was killed in an encounter with the STF this morning in Sikandara area, where he had gone to contact his gang members, Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Brij Lal told reporters here.
Neeraj escaped after killing two police personnel Dharmendra Singh and Hareram when he was being taken to Naini Jail by train on March 16.
"Neeraj, who was being taken to Naini jail in Allahabad after producing him in a Jaunpur court, shot the two personnel on escort duty with his aides Vivek Varma and Manish
Yadav alias Monu," the ADG said.
Brij Lal said that the STF, which was roped in to arrest Neeraj, tracked his movements in MP, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
"On Sunday, the STF was tipped off that Neeraj was trying to establish his base in Agra and was expected to reach the city," he said.
Neeraj was involved in a number of crimes, including dacoity, murder, abduction and loot, he said.
