Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court today directed the Uttar Pradesh government to decide within a month representations of farmers whose land had been acquired more than a decade ago and who were yet to receive any compensation for the same.

A Division Bench, comprising Justice Amitava Lala and Justice Sanjay Mishra, passed the order while disposing of a bunch of petitions filed by Harbans and others hailing from Junaidpur, Sarai Jagannath and Boda villages of Bulandshahar.

The petitioners contended the state government had acquired 317 hectares of land in the three villages in 1998 for which they were yet to receive any compensation.

They also questioned the government's decision to invoke the urgency clause for acquiring the land as physical possession of the same was not yet taken by the concerned authorities.

The petitioners argued that the urgency clause had deprived them of a chance to file objections and bargain for adequate compensation.

The Bench suggested to the farmers to approach the concerned authorities with their grievances and directed the state government to decide their representation within a month.
