Lucknow: A delegation of Uttar Pradesh
Congress today met the State Election Commission here and
requested him to postpone the election for block heads by at
least a week.

The request was made as dates of the election clash
with the proposed Congress convention, UPCC head Rita Bahuguna
Joshi told reporters here.

"We met State Election Commissioner Rajendra Bhonwal
and submitted a memorandum demanding postponment of election
for block heads by a week," she said.

Joshi said the SEC had announced December 20 as the
last date for filing nominations and this clashed with dates
of party convention slated for 19th and 20th of this month.
She alleged the ruling BSP in the state had misused
government machinery during the Panchayat polls.

What was the hurry in conducting the election when
three months were left for completion of the tenure of block
heads, asked Joshi.
