Development is happening in Gujarat: Vastanvi Muzaffarnagar: Amid controversy over his remarks on Gujarat, Maulana Gulam Mohammad Vastanvi, who has announced his decision to resign as vice chancellor of Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband, has said that people in the state felt that development is happening there.

"The people of Gujarat agree on the fact that development is happening in the state and everyone whether a Hindu or a Muslim is there," he said.

He, however, said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi should not be given a clean chit.

Meanwhile, deputy Vice Chancellor of the seminary, Maulana Abdul Khalik Madrasi, told a news agency that a decision on the resignation issue would be taken on February 23 by its managing committee.

"If his resignation is accepted, a new name for the post would be considered by the committee," he said.

UP Samajwadi Party secretary Maviya Ali has demanded that the management committee should not accept Vastanvi's resignation.

"It was most unfortunate that Vastanvi was not allowed to work in an institution which could have benefited from his experience," he said.

The decision by the newly-elected chief of Darul Uloom Deoband to resign followed protests by seminary students over his remarks on Modi.

The decision has been termed as "unfortunate" by some clerics, who expected him to make positive changes in the 200-year-old institution.

Vastanvi, who hails from Surat in Gujarat and was elected VC on January 10, has been facing protests from students at the seminary after he had said that Muslims should forget the communal pogrom of 2002 and move on and that the community did not face discrimination in Modi's state.

Vastanvi felt the situation in the seminary was not conducive for him to continue as the vice-chancellor and decided to step down next month.

The resignation of Vastanvi only goes to show that right thinking people cannot be head of any Institution for the Muslim`s benefit. The concerned person probably needs to be a fanatic and fiery. This is not good for their own development. Let us hope saner counsel would prevail and the Governing body advise him to continue in the job. The Community need to think dispassionately and does not get influenced by politicians.

Some people are good but they are a few and they are in the tag of war with majority motivated people & some man/party(Congress like)give oxygen to the fire for their purpose. That`s why some problem are still burning the entire India.
We cannot blame the total incident on the Hindu/Modi(because Godhra train burning started by none other than Muslim & if it was spontaneous(not planned)though disputed story then it(Gujarat riot) is also spontaneous ).But we cannot leave them(hindu) for such a huge casualty.
This type of incidents will not stop until the people will not stop giving oxygen on them & those will create the chain of terror that already had started.

I CAN`T UNDERSTAND FOR WHAT REASON HE HAS RESIGNED.PRAISING MODI FOR HIS GOOD WORK IS NOT AN OFFENCE.THE CRITICS SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT THE ONLY WAY THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY CAN GO FORWARD IS ACCEPTING TRUE AS A TRUE AND SHOULD NOT CONFINE ITS MIND IN VOTE BANK POLITICS.

Why so much furore over the Maulana`s remarks? He seems to be progressive minded - don`t destroy the moderatism that still exists in our lands.

I completely agree with Janab vastanvi.
This is the time for all indians to go forward.
History should remain as history only.
We have to live in the present and move forward.
Janab vastanvi is the real asset of our nation.
