New Delhi: With the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh under attack for the police firing on agitating farmers, the ruling BSP on Monday accused Congress, BJP and SP of doing politics over bodies of the dead.
"There should not be any politics over dead bodies. The Congress has joined hands with BJP and SP in doing politics over the bodies of dead farmers," BSP MP SC Mishra said.
He was talking to reporters after both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day following uproar over farmers` protest against land acquisition in Uttar Pradesh.
Mishra charged these parties with not being interested in the welfare of the small land owners.
He said there is a procedure for giving compensation for land acquisition which cannot be violated. "We are giving even more than what is due to those farmers whose land would be acquired," he said.
About the police firing, he said, "There is a conspiracy behind the violence and that is why we have ordered a judicial probe. We are also ready for a discussion in the House over the issue."
The farmers have been holding demonstrations for nearly three weeks near Aligarh demanding compensation at the rate paid to Noida and Greater Noida farmers. The protests turned violent over the past two days with three persons being killed in police firing.
The 165 km-long eight-lane expressway connecting Noida to Agra is aimed at reducing driving time between New Delhi and Agra drastically.
