Lucknow: Eight persons were killed in rain-
related incidents in Uttar Pradesh where major rivers are on
the verge of flooding hundreds of villages.
Five persons were killed in Muzaffarnagar, two in Badaun
and one in Shahjahanpur since last evening, official reports
With heavy rainfall and release of water from flooded
rivers of Nepal, rivers Ganga, Sharda, Ramganga, Yamuna and
Ghagra are flowing above red-mark at several places flooding
several villages, the Central Water Commission said.
Ganga was flowing above the danger mark in Ballia and was
rising menacingly in Farukkhabad, Ankinghat and Kanpur where
it was close to the danger mark while river Ramganga was
flowing above red-mark at Moradabad.
Similarly, river Yamuna is flowing above the mark on
Mavi and near the danger mark in Mathura, it said adding that,
Ghagra was flowing above the red mark at Elgin Bridge
in Barabanki and Ayodhya.
River Sharda had crossed the danger mark at Pallia
Kalan in Lakhimpur.
According to the MET department, South west monsoon
was active in west UP and normal in east UP.
Weatherman has forecast moderate to rather heavy rains
and thundershower at many places in the next 24 hours.
