Elderly woman fighting poverty kills self in UP

A youth and an elderly woman allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents here by jumping into the Ganga canal, police said on Wednesday.

Muzaffarnagar: A youth and an elderly woman allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents here by jumping into the Ganga canal, police said on Wednesday.

In the first incident, a 65-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping into Ganga canal under Bhopa police station area yesterday, they said.

The woman who was found near the canal in a critical condition succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the hospital, police said.

The victim was living alone and apparently fighting poverty, they said.

In a separate incident, a 28-year-old man committed suicide by jumping into Ganga canal at Jolly village here yesterday, police said.

The victim identified as Vikas took the extreme step due to depression, they said, adding that the body has not been recovered yet.
