Eminent bureaucrat RK Trivedi no more

RK Trivedi, who also served as the Chief Election Commissioner, had a long and distinguished career as a bureaucrat.

Lucknow: Former Gujarat Governor RK Trivedi died here this afternoon after prolonged illness.

He was 94.

Trivedi, who also served as the Chief Election Commissioner, had a long and distinguished career as a bureaucrat.

He breathed his last at his Nirala Nagar residence here, according to the his family.

Trivedi was honoured with Padma Vibhushan as a recognition to his services towards the nation.

He had joined civil services in 1943 and after serving the state as district magistrates in some districts, he had a long stint at the Centre.

Trivedi was made Central Vigilance Commissioner in October 1980 and in June 1982, he took over as the CEC.

He was Gujarat Governor between 1986 and 1990.
