Bareilly: Agitating farmers and
security guards of a private sugar mill traded fire at the factory premises here today in which one person was killed.
Furious over the death of one of their associates,
the farmers, protesting what they alleged under weighing of
their sugarcanes, vandalised a portion of the factory, police
Nanka, who suffered gunshot wounds in the cross-fire
and was heing taken to a hospital in Bareilly, died on the
way, they said.
The trouble erupted when some farmers, who wanted to
lodge a complaint regarding under weighing of their canes,
wanted to meet the General Manager of Dwarikesh Mill located
in Fareedpur area.
GM R K Gupta refused to meet them and when he came
out of the factory, the farmers surrounded him.
The farmers chanted slogans and forcibly entered the
mill when the security guards tried to protect the GM.
To disperse the protesters, the guards opened fire
prompting the farmers to retaliate.
In the cross-fire, Nanka received bullet injuries and
died on way to hospital, police said.
