Muzaffarnagar: A farmer was allegedly shot at by two bike-borne assailants near Buada village under Khatauli police station here, police said Friday.

The incident happened yesterday when Mainpal (40) was carrying sugarcane crop to a mill in his tractor trolley when two men on a bike shot at him and escaped, they said.

The victim was rushed to a hospital and is in a critical condition, police said, adding that the reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons in this connection, they said.

Efforts are on to nab the culprits, they added.
