Muzaffarnagar: A man, accused of murdering
his 19-year-old daughter in a suspected honour killing, was
on Thursday remanded in 14 days' judicial custody by a local court.
Abdul Sattar Ansari, the girl's father, was produced in
the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and later sent to judicial
custody, the prosecution said.
The victim, Gulista, had eloped with her lover Chouta
(22), who belongs to Dalit community, on October 22. The two
had gone to Haridwar and the girl returned home on the evening
of October 25th.
The girl was allegedly killed by her father, who slit her
throat on Tuesday. Her body was found yesterday morning near
the municipality office in Charthawal, police said.
The father of the girl was arrested and confessed to have
killed his daughter for "tarnishing family name", they said.
