Lucknow: Union Cabinet Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday filed his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha from Lucknow and said that he felt proud to have filed it from Uttar Pradesh.
“I am feeling proud after filing my nomination from Uttar Pradesh. I consider myself lucky that I get to represent this state, which is the starting point of the whole country. I am also thankful to the Bharatiya Janata Party, MLAs and the people of the state,” Parrikar said while talking to reporters.
The Defence Minister further said that he will serve the nation to the best of his abilities and will not let the country be defenceless against the enemy.
Parrikar was accompanied by Union Ministers Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Kalraj Mishra, MP Jagdambika Pal when he went to Vidhan Bhawan to file his nomination at around 1 pm before Principal Secretary Pradeep Dubey.
He flew down to Lucknow on Sunday after being sworn-in as a Union Cabinet minister in Narendra Modi's Council of Minister.
Parrikar was accompanied by Rudy and was welcomed by BJP workers after his arrival at Amausi airport.
While talking to reporters, Parrikar said that he was fortunate to represent UP in Rajya Sabha polls and would fulfil whatever responsibility is given to him.
Rajya Sabha polls for 10 seats in UP are scheduled to be held on November 20.
