Barabanki: A local court here has ordered the police to lodge an FIR against 11 cops, including the then SP, on charges of implicating a person in a false case, illegal detention and torture.

The order was passed by Chief Judicial Magistrate Surya Prakash Sharma on an application filed by the victim Mahendra Kumar Shukla, who alleged harassment by police, prosecution said here today.

On February 3, 2007, Shukla moved an application before the court alleging that the then SP SB Shirodkar, ASP RP Singh, Dy SPs Kuldeep Narain and Rajesh Singh and seven
others implicated him in the false case. Shukla said he was detained illegally and also tortured.

The application was, however, rejected by the CJM court on February 27, 2007, after which Shukla filed an appeal in the High Court.

In February this year, the High Court while observing that prima facie the allegations amount to cognizable offence directed the CJM court to issue a fresh order.

The CJM court after hearing both the parties directed the police to lodge an FIR in the case.
