Five fall ill after Ammonia gas leak in UP

At least five persons, including four minors, were taken ill after Ammonia gas leaked from an ice factory at Kairana town in neighbouring Shamli district, a senior official said on Saturday.

Muzaffarnagar: At least five persons, including four minors, were taken ill after Ammonia gas leaked from an ice factory at Kairana town in neighbouring Shamli district, a senior official said on Saturday.

The incident occurred yesterday when the poisonous gas leaked from the factory, following which the victims, who were in the vicinity of the factory, started complaining of respiratory problems and irritation in the eyes, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Suresh Mishra said.

The victims, identified as Rukhsar (7), Amrin (10), Afsana (12), Sanu (14) and Monnu (80), were admitted to a hospital, he said.

The SDM said that action will be taken against the factory owner for negligence after an inquiry into the incident.
