Four die as mercury dips in Uttar Pradesh

Four persons died in different parts of Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, as cold wave gripped the state, taking the death toll to 11 this season.

gripped the state, taking the death toll to 11 this season.

While a 70-year-old woman Phoolwati Devi died in
Jaunpur district, one death each was reported from Sitapur,
Azamgarh and Bahraich in the last 24 hours, officials said
here.
Seven deaths have already been reported from
Muzaffarnagar, they added.

Temperature has dropped by several degrees in
Gorakhpur and Varanasi division, with heavy fog in the morning
and night at a number of places, Met department official said.

In Gorakhpur, the minimum temperature was around 6.2
degree Celsius, taking it four degrees below normal, whereas
Sultanpur recorded a minimum of 5.8 degrees, three notches
below normal.

Similarly Meerut, Varanasi and Bareilly recorded a
minimum of 6.8 degree C, 8 degree C and 8.2 degree C
respectively which was one degree below normal.
The state capital recorded a minimum of 7.2 degree C.
