Four headmistresses have been placed under suspension in Khatoli block area here after their schools were found locked during a surprise inspection, an official said on Friday.

Muzaffarnagar: Four headmistresses have been placed under suspension in Khatoli block area here after their schools were found locked during a surprise inspection, an official said on Friday.

During a surprise check yesterday four government primary schools were found locked even as 72 teachers were absent from their duties, District Basic Education Officer KK Singh said.

Headmistresses Rekha of a primary school in Chandsina village, Sima of Mubarikpur village, Wasala Anjum and Urmila of Phulat village have been suspended, he said.

A day's salary has also been deducted of teachers who were found absent during the inspection, he said.

Parents of the school children had complained about the absentee teachers, the Basic Education Officer said, following which a team was formed to inspect the schools.
