Four more die of cold in UP, death toll 117

Four persons succumbed to severe cold conditions in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll in the state this winter to 117.

Lucknow: Four persons succumbed to severe cold conditions in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll in the state this winter to 117.

Two elderly persons, died in Gonda district while one death was reported from Sitapur and another constable succumbed to intense the coldwave in Gorakhpur, officials said here.

Though cold conditions persisted in most parts of the state, MeT department officials said, adding that sunshine this morning provided some respite to the people from biting cold.

Najibabad, which recorded a minimum of 2 degree Celsius was the coldest place in the state and capital city Lucknow, recorded a minimum of 3.2 degrees C this morning, which was four notches below normal, while Varanasi recorded a low of
4.1 degree C, three notches below normal.

Kanpur shivered at 3.6 degree C, which was four notches below normal, while minimum temperature in Allahabad settled at 7.3 C, two degrees below normal.

Sultanpur recorded a minimum of 2.8 degree C, which was six degree below normal and minimum temperature in Gorakhpur was 3.3 degree C, six degree below normal.
