Lucknow: Four policemen, including a PAC personnel, were arrested in connection with the cartridge racket where arms and ammunition of CRPF and police were being supplied to anti-social organisations, officials said here on Friday.
So far, six policemen and two civilians have been arrested in the case.
Constable Sushil Kumar of 30 PAC Gonda, armourer Rajesh Shahi posted in Gorakhpur and armourers Amar Singh and Jitendra Singh posted in Faizabad were arrested last evening, they said.
Names of three more armourers cropped up during investigation and interrogation of policemen, who were taken on remand, police said.
On April 30, the Special Task Force had arrested five security personnel and a retired sub-inspector following inputs that a large quantity of cartridges were being smuggled out of the CRPF group centre at Rampur via a source in Allahabad to various criminal gangs and possibly Naxals.
Over 5,000 live cartridges, 16 magazines of INSAS rifles, .25 bore guns, SLR and AK-47s was recovered besides 245 kg of empty shells following raids at various places.
