Ghaziabad: With the water level in the
Ganga river continuing to rise, district authorities in
Garhmukteshwar have geared up to evacuate people living in
low-lying areas, a senior official said.

The river has touched the danger mark flooding
low-lying agricultural fields and villages in the region.

"The situation of flood will become grim and serious
as the 2.16 lac cusec water was discharged from Bijnore
barrage in the Ganga river and the water level will go up as
soon as it reaches here in Garhmukteshwar, 60 km from here,"
District Magistrate Hredesh Kumar said.

Kumar also inspected the area and said all necessary
arrangements have been made to evacuate people in case of
floods.

The DM said that the water level is stable now but
can increase with the heavy rains continuing in plains and
hills and discharge of additional water from Haridwar and
Bijnore barrages.
