Azamgarh: A gangster allegedly operating for
an Uttar Pradesh MLA was killed in an encounter with police
near Kartalpur bypass here, a police officer said.
Kali Pasi, who carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 and
allegedly involved in 18 criminal cases, was linked to mafia
don-turned MLA Mukhtar Ansari.
He was shot dead when he attempted to break a police
barrier and opened fire in an attempt to flee after being
intercepted, SP Bhagwan Swaroop said.
He said Kali worked as a shooter for the gang and was
wanted in the murder of a policeman. "In all, he had 18
criminal cases against him," the SP said, adding a 9 mm pistol
was recovered from him.
