Ghaziabad: A four-year-old boy who was kidnapped for ransom from Vasundhara area of the city yesterday was rescued by the police early on Friday.

As per preliminary reports, Karan Bajaj was rescued from Sahibabad area after a late night encounter between the police and the gang of four men who had abducted the boy.

The abductors are said to be linked to a professional kidnapping gang operating from the Chambal ravines - that operates from the area bordering Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh - and were planning to take the boy to Etawah. Following the encounter during which both sides exchanged fire, the four men were arrested.

Karan’s father Tejendra Bajaj is an employee at a car dealership. As per reports, he received a ransom call of Rs 70 lakhs. However, the police are not still confirming the ‘abduction for ransom ‘angle as the family doesn’t seem capable of paying such a huge amount.

The police are probing other angles including the role of one of Tejendra Bajaj’s female colleague, with whom he recently had an altercation over some issue.

Karan was kidnapped around 1 pm in Vasundhara by two men on a motorcycle when he and his grandmother were returning to their house from his school.

Tragically for the family, Karan`s aunt Nisha, the sister of his father Tejendra Bajaj, was crushed by a train around 7 pm on tracks behind industrial unit Mohan Meakin Ltd while she went searching for him.
