Ghaziabad: Curfew was imposed in trouble-
torn Modinagar area near here for over two hours after
agitated students went on a rampage to protest the killing of
their peer by a roadways bus, police said on Friday.
The curfew, which was imposed in the afternoon yesterday,
was lifted after two hours by Additional District Magistrate
(Executive) Ram Kishan Sharma when the situation seemed to be
under control, but prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC
were issued to prevent any untoward incident.
Rapid Action Force(RAF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary
(PAC) officers continued intensive patrolling in the area,
Over 50 vehicles were damaged, while a fire tender and
Niwari road police post were burnt yesterday by students after
Kapil Sharma(15), a class nine student of K N Modi college,
was crushed to death by a state roadways bus.
The agitated students also assaulted over a dozen
policemen and attacked several hospitals in the area.
Criminal case of sabotage of properties was registered
against unidentified persons, said SSP Raghubir Lal, while
giving assurance that innocent persons would not be troubled
by the police.
District Magistrate Susheel Kumar said that situation was
under control and all the damaged and burnt vehicles were
removed from the roads.
The victim`s family was handed over an amount of Rs
20,000 as an immediate relief yesterday.
