Girl harassed by youths kills self in UP

A teenage girl, who was sexually harassed by three youths of her village on Thursday, has allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in Muzaffarnagar district, police said.

Muzaffarnagar: A teenage girl, who was sexually harassed by three youths of her village on Thursday, has allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in Muzaffarnagar district, police said.

According to police, the 17-year-old girl set herself afire Friday at her house at Luhari village in Charthawal police station area of the district. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police said three youths had entered into her house when she was alone on Thursday and sexually harassed her. A complaint had been registered in this regard and police were on the look-out of the accused.

According to the father of the girl, she was depressed following the incident and this might have led her to take the extreme step.

In a separate incident, a 65-year-old man, Bhawer Singh, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house at Pirkhera village under Jhinjhana police station area of Shamli district yesterday, police said, adding that he had been going through financial problems.
