Govt puts on hold elevation of Alla`bad HC chief justice to SC

The Government is understood to have kept on hold the elevation of Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad to the Supreme Court.

New Delhi: The Government is understood to
have kept on hold the elevation of Allahabad High Court Chief
Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad to the Supreme Court.

Sources said this follows receipt of petitions against
him containing various charges.

However, Bombay High Court Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar
whose name was also recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for elevation to the apex court was approved today.

With Justice Kumar`s elevation, the strength of the SC
judges will increase to 27 against the sanctioned strength of
31.
