Guidelines for free laptops, tablets in UP

The Uttar Pradesh government has issued guidelines for free distribution of laptops to Class XII students and tablets to those who have cleared Class X examination.

Lucknow: Moving a step closer to fulfilling the poll promise of ruling Samajwadi Party, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued guidelines for free distribution of laptops to Class XII students and tablets to those who have cleared Class X examination.

The conditions and modalities of implementing the scheme have been explained in detail in a letter issued by Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani yesterday to all commissioners, district magistrates and director education, official sources said today.

The letter states that decision to set up Special Project Implementation Unit has been taken for its successful implementation.

Pointing out that UP Electronics Corporation Limited has been authorised to procure these laptops and tablets, it says an experts committee has been set up to decide the specifications of these equipment.

The letter warns that if any list provided by a school is found containing names of ineligible or fictitious beneficiaries or any relevant fact is kept hidden, the distribution in that school would be stopped till verification and stern action would be taken against the guilty principal and managing committee.

At the district level, a seven-member committee headed by respective DMs with peoples representatives would oversee the implementation of the scheme, it said.

The scheme would cover students of UP Madhyamik Shiksha Board, Allahabad, UP Madhyamik Sanskrit Shiksha Parishad, UP Madarsa Shiksha Parishad, CBSE and ICSE who have passed in 2012, the letter added.
