Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Friday
dismissed writ petitions challenging the acquisition of land
for the construction of Yamuna Expressway, an eight-lane
highway between Noida and Agra, saying the project was in
The order was passed by a Division Bench comprsing Justice
Sunil Ambawani and Justice Virendra Singh with the remark that
the Expressway was a project of great importance, in public
interest and also crucial for the upcoming Commonwealth Games
scheduled to be held in Delhi later in the year.
The court said there was no point in challenging the
acquisition of land when most of the land-owners have wilfully
accepted the compensation offered by Uttar Pradesh government.
The petitioners Narendra Road Lines Pvt Ltd and hundreds
of others had moved the HC with the plea that the notification
for the acquisition of land was issued by the state government
without being given an opportunity for registering their

C Chaturvedi who argued that most of the tenure holders and
lessees had already signed the settlements and accepted the
compensation offered by the state government.
