HIV +ve woman elected as BDC member

A 30-year-old HIV positive woman has been elected as a member of the Block Development Committee (BDC) to draw attention of the government towards her plight and help her in treatment.

woman has been elected as a member of the Block Development
Committee (BDC) to draw attention of the government towards
her plight and help her in treatment.
Pravin Devi was elected as a member of the BDC of Gursan
block here by an open panchayat at Tuksan village, so that the
post could help her to get free treatment to the HIV
infection, which she contracted six months ago during blood
transfusion at a nursing home in Aligarh, gram pradhan Mukesh
Kumar said.

"We decided to ensure her election so that the fight her
family was waging alone could get some strength and we also
got the support of other villages", Kumar said, adding that
Uttar Prasdeh Power Minister Ramvir Upadhaya has assured her
of getting treatment at Lucknow`s Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate
Institute of Medical Sciences.
Pravin, wife of a local farmer Umesh Chandra, got HIV
infection during advanced stages of her pregnancy. A mother of
a four-month-old daughter got hope to a proper treatment
after her election.

A three member medical team has been constituted to
look into the matter, Additional Director of Health S K
Lohita said.
