Hope UP govt and Centre will share good relationship: Akhilesh Yadav

Kanpur: Hoping that his government in Uttar Pradesh and Narendra Modi-led Union government will share a good relationship, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said he expects that the state will timely get all grants due to it from the Centre.

"As per the federal structure of our country, the relationship between the state and Union governments should be good," said the Chief Minister who was here to meet a party leader whose wife had passed away.
"I hope that the relationship between the Uttar Pradesh and Union governments is good and the state continues to get the Central grants which it is entitled to," he said.

"During the tenure of the past government, the state was not getting all the grants due to it. We hope that we will now get them timely," he added.

"People should understand that state government alone is not responsible for all the problems of the state and the Central government is equally responsible.
"Take the example of the national highways. People in the state say that the state government should repair the highways. But these highways come under the jurisdiction of the national government and it should get them repaired.

The state government is repairing the roads under its jurisdiction," he said.
When asked about the shortage of electricity in the state, the CM blamed the Union government for the problem.

"The state government is capable of producing electricity itself, but the Central government has not given coal to us. And so, despite signing nine MoUs with several companies, we are not being able to produce power. If the Union government gives us coal, we will start producing power in the state.

"Politics over electricity is not right," he said.

The Chief Minister later visited the house of Air Force official Ashish Yadav who died when a plane of the force crashed in Agra in March this year. He also offered financial assistance to them.
