Journalist attacked for objecting to dumping of waste

 A journalist was seriously injured in an attack by about half-a-dozen persons in Anand Puri Colony in Krishna Nagar area, police said on Sunday.

Mathura: A journalist was seriously injured in an attack by about half-a-dozen persons in Anand Puri Colony in Krishna Nagar area, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place yesterday evening when Arun Chaturvedi, who edits a Hindi weekly, objected to dumping of waste on roadside.

He was attacked with spade and iron rod allegedly by dairy farm owner Madan and his four brothers.

He was rushed to the district hospital in an unconscious state. Later, he was referred to S N Medical College in Agra, police said.

"The assailants would not be spared for taking law in their hand. They have been booked under sections 307 ,147 and 148 of the IPC. They would be arrested shortly," SSP Rakesh Singh said.

Meanwhile, another journalist and his family members were allegedly attacked by his neighbours who pelted stones and open fired at his house in Rafiqabad Colony under Mussoorie police station in Ghaziabad district today, police said.

Hafiz Sayeedudin filed a complaint with police that some neighbours attacked his family this afternoon, pelted stones at their house and open fired too.

An investigation was on into the case, police said, adding that efforts were on to nab the accused.
