Meerut: Demanding a separate High Court bench in western Uttar Pradesh, lawyers in the region on Tuesday embarked on strike until December 20, refusing to work until their demand is met.
A decision was taken in a meeting today that 11 lawyers will be on a relay strike starting today from 10 AM to 5 PM at the district and tehsil headquarters till December 20, said Dhirendra Dutt Sharma, president of Central Action Committee for High Court Bench.
The protesters will also convey their demand to the Prime Minister with the help of SMS, Facebook and Twitter, besides raising the issue for the HC bench in Parliament through their elected representatives, Dutt said.
The lawyers will also stage a dharna at the main road of the district one of the days and block it, he added.
Lawyers from 22 districts of the state working for tehsils, commissionery, registry, income tax and commercial tax departments will not work in courts till December 20.
