Bahraich: An eight-year-old boy was
mauled to death by a leopard in Katarniyaghat Wildlife
Sanctuary, a forest department officer said here today.
Akash was snatched from his mother`s lap in Lakkhi
village yesterday and later the victim`s body was recovered
from cane field late in the evening, divisional forest officer
R K Singh said.
Agitated over the incident villagers allegedly held the
forest department staff captive, who were released later on
the assurance of the officers.
Singh said three people had been killed and half a dozen
other injured in attacks by tigers and leopards this year.
"Though the leopard has not been declared as man eater a
special team has been constituted and traps laid to catch the
big cat," he said.
