Bahraich: A young female leopard, which
had strayed out in search of food, was lynched to death by
villagers in Murklha range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary,
a forest department official said here.

"The leopard, which strayed into human habitat in
search of food, was lynched by villagers in Semri Ghatahi
village yesterday," divisional forest officer R K Singh said.

A case had been lodged against three persons under
Wildlife Protection Act, he said, adding that body of the
leopard, which was around two years old, had been sent for
post-mortem.

The forest department officials said the villagers
were angry as the leopard had injured some cattle on Friday
night.

Since 2006, five leopards and three tigers have been
killed in the sanctuary, project officer of WWF Dabir Hasan
said.
