Local BSP leader accused of killing niece, arrested

A local BSP leader has been arrested on charges of murdering his 16-year-old niece with whom he was allegedly in an extra-marital relationship, police said on Thursday.

Bulandshahr: A local BSP leader has been arrested on charges of murdering his 16-year-old niece with whom he was allegedly in an extra-marital relationship, police said on Thursday.

The former zila panchayat member, Lokesh Rana who is a resident of Pavasara village of Agauta area was arrested yesterday in connection with the crime, SP City Rajesh Kumar said.

Rana, who was already married, was allegedly having an affair with his niece Jyoti, a class XI student, who lived opposite his house, police said.

The accused was arrested following investigation after a missing report was filed by the girl's father.

On sustained interrogation by the police, Rana confessed to killing Jyoti and dumping her body in river Ganga at Anoopshahr town on April 4, police said.

He said he took the step after the deceased started pressing him to shift to Delhi where he owned a taxi business as the other villagers had come to know about their affair, the SP added.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of IPC.
