Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police have cracked the sensational murder of 20-year-old Gauri Srivastava and arrested her friends for the crime.

Gauri’s murder had shocked Lucknow given the brutality of the crime – reports claimed that the autopsy report suggests that her body parts were chopped while she was still alive.

The killers then scattered her body parts over an area of one square kilometre in Lucknow’s Sahid Path area.

"On February 1, CCTV footage shows Gauri was with her friend on a motorcycle near Latouche Road. She had left her home saying that she would return in 10 minutes, but when she did not return even after three to four hours, her family members informed the police," Senior Superintendent of Police (Lucknow) Yashasvi Jain told the media.

"On February 2, Gauri`s dismembered body was found near the SGPGI Road police station. Her limbs, torso, head, were found stuffed in jute bags," he added.

The police relied on electronic surveillance to crack the case – they found the location of the killer by analysing the internet usage of the victim`s phone.

"We used many advanced methods to investigate the case, such as electronic surveillance and call data record analysis. We also used the internet log analysis, which enabled us to locate the murderer`s house," Jain said, adding that her mobile has been recovered from the accused.

Gauri had gone missing from her home last Sunday. Reports said that when her parents went to lodge a missing complaint, the police ticked them off saying that she must have run away and that they should wait for her to return.”

According to reports, the police have also recovered the saw used in the murder.

The murderer has reportedly confessed to his crime during interrogation. The police have announced a cash reward to the team which solved the case.
