Man found murdered in Meerut

A half-burnt body of an elderly man, suspected to have been murdered by an occultist as part of some rituals, was found in Mataur village in Daurala area here, police said on Saturday.

Meerut: A half-burnt body of an elderly man, suspected to have been murdered by an occultist as part of some rituals, was found in Mataur village in Daurala area here, police said on Saturday.

The body of an unidentified man, about 55 years of age, was found in a semi-nude and half-burnt condition in a field here by some villagers, Circle Officer Brijesh Kumar Singh said.

There were injury marks on the man's face and the body was burnt from the waist, police said.

Police also found some blood-stained rice, a bowl containing blood and some other items from the site which points towards the involvement of an occultist, he said.

A case has been registered in this connection, police said, adding, further investigation is on.

This incident comes in the wake of kidnapping and murder of a 4-year-old boy for occult rituals on February 2 in the district.
