Man held for duping woman of gold ornaments, cash in UP

A conman was arrested for allegedly duping a woman of gold ornaments worth one lakh rupees in the name of treating her mother`s ailments through witchcraft, police said Friday.

allegedly duping a woman of gold ornaments worth one lakh rupees in the name of treating her mother`s ailments through witchcraft, police said Friday.

The conman identified as Baba Babur, a resident of
Lisari gate in Meerut district, was arrested when he came to meet the woman last evening in the ISBT area of the town.
The woman came in contact with the accused few months
ago and he assured her of curing her mother`s ailments through
his witchcraft. For treatment, he asked the woman to
bring her mother`s gold ornaments and a sum of Rs 4,000.
The woman later came to Baba along with her mother and
handed him over the gold ornaments and the cash. After
performing the puja, Baba returned a bag carrying
ornaments to them with a warning to open it after three days.

After three days, the woman opened the bag to find
nothing following which a report was lodged with the police.

Ever since the incident took place, Baba`s mobile phone
was switched off. However, he switched on his phone yesterday
and the woman called him with a different name urging him to
get her rid of problems following which he came to meet her
and was caught by the police.
