Man wanted in criminal cases killed in encounter with STF

A man wanted in 15 criminal cases and carrying a cash reward of Rs 20,000 on his head was on Sunday killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police in Maharajganj district, official sources said.

Pradesh Police in Maharajganj district, official sources said.

Dinesh Rai alias Butler was injured in an encounter with
the STF. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared
him brought dead, they said.

The STF got information that Rai, a history-sheeter, has
been committing serious crimes, including murder and abduction
in UP and Nepal.

"The STF field unit got a tip-off this morning that Rai
was going towards Gorakhpur with his aide, on the basis of
which a trap was laid near Farendra in Maharajganj district,"
the sources said.

When the STF team attempted to intercept Rai`s vehicle,
he opened fire and attempted to escape, but was killed in
retaliatory firing, they said.

Police claimed that recently Rai had abducted a man named
Manoj Gupta and looted his jeep.
