Mau jail inmates clash over death of under trial

Mau: Violent clashes have been reported between the Mau jail inmates and the prison authorities in Uttar Pradesh over the death of an under trial on Wednesday.

According to reports, district jailors Uday Raj Patel and Rakesh Singh have sustained serious injuries in the incident and they have been admitted to the Mau district hospital for treatment.

Five policemen are also reported to be injured in the incident.

The clashes occurred after jail inmates accused the prison authorities of negligence and not providing timely medical assistance to an under trial Sayed Ur Rehman, who died this morning.

The Mau jail inmates have blamed the prison authorities for the death of 22-year-old Rehman, who was a rape accused.
