Lucknow: Continuing his tirade against the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that the BSP ministers were pocketing money meant for the poor.
Addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, Gandhi said the funds being given by the Centre are not reaching the poor in the state.
Money meant for the people under the MNREGA was reaching the ministers, not the poor, he alleged.
He added that the CBI is probing the misuse of funds in the state.
The Congress general secretary was addressing his supporters in Bahraich on the second day of his five-day public contact programme.
The Congress scion also hit out at the BSP and SP over the issue of Land Acquisition Bill, saying the two were stalling the Bill.
“The UP government takes money from builders and gives them your land,” Gandhi said, and asked “where was Samajwadi Party when Bhatta-Parsaul incident happened”.
Gandhi said Chief Minister Mayawati probably does not know what was happening in the state. “This is because she doesn’t meet you,” he added.
Lashing out at Mayawati and SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, Gandhi said they are no more “angry” about your pathetic situation as both have become big leaders who travel in helicopters.
“The rest of India is progressing while Uttar Pradesh is sliding backward. This makes me angry,” he told the crowd.
Gandhi’s five-day UP tour comes ahead of the Assemble elections due in the state early next year.
