Meerut: A district court here has
acquitted two accused in connection with the murder of
under-19 cricketer Gagandeep Singh and a shopkeeper in 2009,
due to lack of evidence.
Ajay Raj and Rahul Sirohi were acquitted by the
district court yesterday for lack of evidence.
However, both the accused, currently lodged in jail in
connection with the case, would continue to remain behind bars
for their involvement in various other criminal activities in

On October 9, 2009, Raj along with his accomplices
took up a quarrel with a shopkeeper at an eating joint in
Meerut over delay in being served and later fired at him and
another person sitting in the shop.
When they were trying to flee, Gangandeep attempted to
overpower them and in the scuffle the assailants fired at him
Raj was arrested by police in January 2010.
