Ghaziabad: Residents of Ghaziabad will be
able to enjoy Metro comfort from July 9 when the Delhi Metro`s
small stretch connecting Anand Vihar to Vaishali in Uttar
Pradesh will become operational, a GDA official said.

This was decided at meeting of officials of Ghaziabad
Development Authority in Lucknow on Monday. The phase-I Vaishali
metro trials will be completed by June 30.

"All preparations have been made to operationalise the
line and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati will inaugurate
it on July 9," vice chaiman of GDA Narendra Kumar Choudhary
said.

However, DMRC spokesperson Anju Dayal said that they have
not formally informed the GDA about the inauguration date, but
confirmed that the trials will be completed by end of this
month.

The 2.57 km line is expected to ease travelling woes of
thousands of people who reside in Ghaziabad and other
adjoining areas in Uttar Pradesh and commute to the national
capital everyday. Currently, residents of Ghaziabad have to
come to Anand Vihar ISBT to board a Metro station.

The Rs 236 crore project took three years to complete, a
year behind schedule. Other than Vaishali and Anand Vihar, the
metro train will halt at Indirapuram, Sahibabad, Mohan Nagar
and Ghaziabad City.

The Metro will also be a boon for shoppers as Ghaziabad is
home to several swanky malls and cinema halls. Besides, the
Metro corridor will cater to the Sahibabad Industrial area as
well as offices of many private sector.

Delhi Metro, which currently has an operational network
of over 165 km, ferries over 16 lakh passengers on week days
through over 2,500 trips.

Delhi Metro projects that 40,000 passengers are expected
to use this stretch once it is operational.
