Mishap at manned crossing: Railways order inquiry

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday ordered an inquiry and suspension of the gateman posted at the manned level crossing in UP's Hardoi district where a collision between a tractor trolley and train left two children dead.

New Delhi: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday ordered an inquiry and suspension of the gateman posted at the manned level crossing in UP's Hardoi district where a collision between a tractor trolley and train left two children dead.

Two minor children were killed and three others injured when a tractor trolley carrying them was hit by a train when it was crossing the railway line near Sandila station in the district.

"Taking serious note of the incident, Railway Minister has ordered an inquiry into it. He has also given instruction to put the gateman under suspension and he has been suspended," Railway spokesperson Anil Saxena said.

Saxena said the "Dehradun-Howrah express was passing the manned level crossing at 8.45 AM in the Hardoi-Lucknow section near Sandila station and a tractor trolley dashed against the running train as a result of which two children travelling in the tractor lost their lives."

Senior railway officers from Moradabad division have rushed to the spot to ensure relief and rescue operation at the accident site

Restoration of the track is going on, he said.
