Missing girl`s body found in Phaphundpur, locals stage protest alleging rape

The body of a minor girl, who had been missing since May 31, was recovered from near railway tracks in Phaphundpur of Uttar Pradesh`s Auraiya district, police said on Tuesday.

Relatives and neighbours of the girl alleged that she was raped and then murdered, and charged the police with laxity. Additional Superintendent of Police Shailendra Rai said the body was recovered yesterday evening. And when the body was taken to the village today, the villagers staged protest and pelted stones at policemen, injuring Ajitmal mahila thana in-charge Subhadhra Verma, he said. The father of the deceased, Amritlal, alleged that his daughter was abducted, raped, and then murdered. He said despite a complaint of kidnapping, police only registered a missing case and did nothing to trace her. Rai said the post-mortem examination report was awaited to reach to any conclusion. He said Ajitmal police station SHO Ramlal Pandey had been sent to Police Lines in this matter and further investigations were on.
