Lakhimpur: Mutilated body of a 16-year- old student, missing since last week, was on Saturday found from a sugarcane field here, following which his cousin has been arrested, police said.

The victim, identified as Rahul, resident of Rajaganj village, was a class XI student at an inter-college in Gola and had gone missing since October 9, they said.

Rahul's father Shrikrishna said after his son went missing, he had received calls on his mobile for ransom.

Based on the father's complaint, police had lodged an FIR and put his number on surveillance which disclosed the involvement of Rahul's cousin Dinesh in the case, police said.

Police have arrested Dinesh who has confessed to his crime.

Shrikrishna has claimed that Dinesh had borrowed money from Rahul and has alleged that Dinesh might have killed his son as he couldn't give back Rahul's money.

The reason behind the murder is not yet known, police said, adding a probe into the matter is on.
